The African Violet, or Saintpaulia, is a perennial flowering plant from the family Gesneriaceae. There are over 400 different species of violets.
African violets form a low growing rosette of dark green, rounded leaves sprouting blooms across a range of colors from white, pinks and reds to blues and purples, as well as bi-colors. These flowering plants can reach a height of 15cm.
African violets need slightly moist soil at all times, do not let the soil dry out. Bright, indirect sunlight is needed to bloom. These plants should be kept at an average room temperature of 65 - 75°F. Damage can occur from overwatering, cold drafts or harsh summer sun.
